TorcExpander
Non explosive mechanical expansion for collapsed tubulars
Description
Configured together with the TorcDesperado Linear Actuator and the Electric Manipulation Tool (EMT) the TorcExpander is used to mechanically deform a collapsed tubular by swaging it open. The expansion segments on the TorcExpander can be engineered to fit the geometry of the collapsed tubular and are axially acitvated by the EMT and TorcDesperado and travels relatively to a cone in order to deform the tubular back towards it original shape. As this operation is controlled from surface by operating the EMT it also provides control wih respect to the mechanical position of the expansion segments. After the deformation has been made and expanded to the desired diameter the tool is retracted and reposisioned for another expansion.
Mutliple tool configurations
The TorcExpander has many different areas of use. Aside of the standard collapse expansion pads there are other options to consider.
- Slim pads for smaller entry
- Circular option with multiple expansion segments
- Dimple only for centralization/standoff
In short the business end of the TorcExpander can easily be engineered to fit the required geometry in the well bore.
FAQ
What is the TorcExpander used for?
The TorcExpander is designed to expand collapsed tubulars, restoring internal access for subsequent operations when tubular deformation has occurred.
How is the TorcExpander operated and controlled?
The TorcExpander is operated using the Electric Manipulation Tool (EMT) and controlled through the TorcDrive system, enabling precise mechanical expansion during the operation.
How does TorcExpander fit into the E Plug tool system?
TorcExpander can be run in combination with other E Plug technologies, including EMT and TorcDesperado, as part of an integrated tool system for tubular intervention operations.
